During Creative Problem Solving day at the end of the summer, students use what they learned to tackle a series of interdisciplinary creative problems designed by a team of their UB teachers. The summer program is designed to simulate a college-going experience. Students are expected to attend academic classes and to participate in study groups, sports, lectures, and career planning classes four-and-a-half days per week. An Individualized Educational Development Work Plan is developed for each student as a guideline. After UB Chillin', there is a perod of "L2S (Learning to Study)", where students devote time to study and research, or they can connect with teachers and residential staff for support and encouragement before they start their morning classes. Students receive instruction in UW classrooms and enroll in language arts, math, foreign language, science and elective classes. Maine's First Public University. UMF UB actively identifies, recruits, and selects motivated high school students who would be the first in their families to attend college. Each student is required to maintain regular attendance in the program. UNH UB has its own residence hall where the 90 students and 12 residential staff members live during the summer program.

Student groups work together on a variety of summer-long ECLIPSe challenges (Exercises in Collaborative Learning and Innovative Problem Solving). This scholarship set up by Upward Bound/UBMS recognizes graduated seniors who have participated in the pre-bridge summer program and have shown exceptional commitment in pursuing their college-bound goals. All services offered are designed to increase academic achievement, and to assist students in developing a sense of self-reliance and independence. Each summer, Upward Bound students spend six weeks on the UW campus to experience the academic and social atmosphere of a major university. During the summer, a six-week residential program is held at Marist College's main campus. To meet cultural, social, and recreational needs, Upward Bound plans various activities designed to provide diverse experiences. Classes offered are designed to strengthen skills and to introduce new material in English, mathematics, science, social studies, and foreign language starting from ninth grade through college course level. Upward Bound students start the morning with breakfast at 7:30am in the program's dining hall, then ease into their day with a half hour of UB Chillin' which is time for students to prepare themselves both physically and mentally for the day. Students take four grade-appropriate classes in the following areas: mathematics, literature and composition, the natural sciences, foreign languages and either SAT preparation, Study Skills, or Introduction to Research Methods. An intensive six-week residential program takes place at UMF during the summer. Upward Bound provides a summer, non-residential program in June and July. UW Upward Bound serves qualified students at Seattles Franklin, Chief Sealth International and Cleveland High Schools; and students from Kent-Meridian High School who are from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and/or will be the first in their family to complete a four-year college degree. Academic Year Program Students are instructed by teachers and staff to build skills necessary for educational success.
During the school year, services are offered at the high schools and on the UMF campus. Support provided during the academic year includes the opportunity to earn elective credit in the Upward Bound College Preparation Course, one-on-one mentoring, homework support, career exploration and field trips; and college advising, financial aid application assistance, and scholarship application help. During the school year, Upward Bound provides workshops that emphasize study skills, academic planning, career exploration, and assistance with college admission and application processes. This six-week academic and residential program is offered at no charge to Upward Bound/UBMS participants and offers experiences and memories. Funding for Grant Year 2020-2021 is $568,868. That is why all summer program participants are carefully supervised by trained Upward Bound counselors and instructors, both in their classes and in their recreational time.
