You look at the billboards, you look at the magazines, the newspapers, the advertisements on the television for insurance, for bank accounts, for everything under the sun - and the message that comes across is this: make your future secure, prepare for tomorrow, get everything in order so that if illness comes along, or death comes along, everything will be alright - prepare for tomorrow! For what is your life? In fact, at times things turn out in ways that exceed your wildest dreams. James asks another question, he basically asks this question: 'Are you prepared for tomorrow?'. What happens if your family is gone? Is the only reason you have for living your family? They were so good that after eating one, we were ready to head home. If you turned to Luke 12 tonight, you would read about a rich fool. You find in the book of Peter, listen: 'God is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance'. I've talked to some of these people, they don't have the Lord Jesus Christ in their life, and they'll tell you: 'Oh, I'm alright the way I am. Boy, did that bring home to me - listen - it's real! If you were to read Genesis 11, and even turn to it tonight, and verse 4 you would read similar words. What does repentance mean? In fact Job, in his book in the Old Testament, says that life is like a weaver's shuttle. God says enough. You never know what a day will bring. Even Jesus made plans for His tomorrows. You cant be sure what might show up at the doorstep of your life. But how do we make plans? . Then in 1 Corinthians 16:7 he again said: I hope to spend some time with you as the Lord permits.. James 4 and verse 13, James writes: "Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. After spending 40 years on the backside of a desert, God plops him down among his people (2,000,000) and he leads them through the wilderness for the next 40 years. You hope to get right with God one day You intend to be a better Christian one day But somehow that day never comes. You would think that would be it, no more sin - but you'd be wrong, because the people who lived after the flood were nearly as bad, if not worse than the ones that lived before it. Now the verses of scripture that we read together tonight, if you just look down at them for a moment, James here is talking about the subject 'tomorrow'. James shows us several faulty assumptions we can make about our tomorrows in James 4:13. Wouldn't you? It does not happen that way. Probably! He's talking about a man who had decided that the very next day he was going to go and do some business in another city. Our Lord willing is to lead to purposeful actions or engagements. That place called hell, God isn't wanting to send you there - and don't ever accuse Him of it! The story ends on a nice little hill overlooking a meandering river with a nice granite stone on the side of that hill. Our 1st century counterpart figured that he would be a success . My guess is probably not. . You dont know. How can I boast about anything when it was my life, when it was my sin, when it was my selfish ambition and pride, when it was my foolishness, my filthiness that brought the Lord Jesus Christ from heaven to put Him on a cross, to drain Him of His blood, that my sins could be washed away? I'm sorry to be so blunt - but, you see, the Bible is blunt! It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away'. Its really not very important because tonight, youre out of here!. It means you will have pampered yourself into mediocrity when you could have been immersed in the greatness of Gods tomorrows. James uses an illustration of a man in verse 13, he says: 'Go to now, ye that say, Today or tomorrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain'. The wisest man that ever lived, apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, said in Proverbs 27 and verse 1 - he said: 'Boast not thyself of tomorrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth'. 
To our shame tonight, even the Christian church has been taken for a ride by a bunch of false prophets - why? Let's ask that question tonight: wherever you are, no matter who you are, are you prepared for tomorrow? It just means 'turning round', just doing an 'about turn'. It did for a girl named Mary who like other young women in ancient Palestine was anticipating the arrival of a Messiah. You'd do anything to save your children, wouldn't you?
