I havent read the book in a decade, but it was very moving at the time. I realized that I hadnt been prioritizing that kind of good feeling. I recommend this podcast to literally anyone who will listen and it has helped me develop a more healthy outlook on relationships and moving on from them.
Sam & Sierra are like the two friends I never knew I needed, and while Ive yet to write in my own letter, the advice they give is so transferrable! Saved me thousands in therapy. I had made the crack that like,What if this was a podcast? Also got a letter answered and listened to the response so many times, its really helped me. But beneath all the histrionic modesty and comedic jabs there is worthwhile and solid advice: its clear that Blackwell and DeMulder care deeply about their listeners. Just Break Up offers the exact insight, warmth, and friendship vibes that I needed in a podcast focused on relationships and head and heart work. So I moved to Minneapolis because I had some connections here through spoken word poetryI was doing slam poetry when I was younger and I was really obsessed with it. Sam and Sierra are the best - funny, smart, witty and somehow deliver their saga wisdom both with lightheartedness and deep love for their listeners.
It gave me all the tools I didnt realize I needed and all the ones Ive been looking for my entire life. Sam and Sierra get to the heart of the issue. And then whats the name of the other book that I, like, warned was going to change your life, but not in a good way? It was screaming for love and not romantic love. Thats what we did was just talk about really intense relationship stuff. I came up to the Cities to go to the U and studied English there. Blackwell and DeMulder are self-proclaimed nonprofessional amateurs, making it self-effacingly clear from the jump that they have, no idea what theyre talking about. And yet, thousands flock to their podcast every Monday to glean their deeply perceptive insights into how to navigate loves brambly terrain. So much of our relationship was about getting together and talking about our lives and love. Dont let 3 star person stop you from spreading your happy. 2) Episode 202: Of Course Things Came Out Sideways! Even if the situation in a letter doesnt apply to me, the advice is always golden, and I always get something out of it. It was my little life raft during the hardest year of my life and helped me gain perspective and begin to understand how to move forward. SD: We shared the most with each other for some reason. I would say youre not responsible for your partners feelings. I love this podcast, I started listening to it when my relationship was bad and I realized that I wasnt getting what I needed. Then there are tons of self-help books that Sierra and I have both read. I call it going to church yall always give the tough love or the sweet affirmation needed. SD: That book should have a trigger warning. I can say that listening to Sam and Sierras humble musings guided me toward the courage to cut a relationship out of my life that was no longer serving me. . And were creating space to help foster that. Also I cant help but laugh every time Sierra laughs her laugh is amazing. Especially Sierras laugh. i cant thank them enough <3 they always lift my mood & make my day so much better <33. They are so cute, hilarious, and totally inspirational , I love this podcast.

Discussions that Sam and Sierra (aka Salmon Sierra) have together and with guests have helped me communicate better in my own relationships, and give language to topics Ive wanted to discuss in my own therapy journey. SD: The first time I realized Sam and I were like deeply compatible friends was when I was working and Sam came in to have a coffee and I realized he was readingExtremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Its the only podcast I make time to listen to every week. He sent me this letter and I was so emotional about it. SD: [Laughs] Yeah. I was in all of the high school plays, I also was in lots of different clubs; definitely an overachiever. The language and tools that they use (attachment styles, abundant/scarcity mindset, etc) frequently repeat throughout their advice providing a foundation to discuss and discern all sorts of sticky situations (romantic and not!). I think that also, I just have had an interest in relationships for a really long time. Its like 15, 20 stories tall, which is where I met Sierra. Its also sort of like me just trying to connect with the letter itself. , I really wanted to like this show but theres quite a few episodes that are political and I dont like to have that in my podcasts.
